MGT 6250 Health Insurance and Managed Care

Prerequisites: ACC 6490 ECO 6250 , and MGT 6100   Corequisites: MGT 6150  and MGT 6410 .

This course examines insurance mechanisms, risk management, patient-provider dynamics, health legislation, and antitrust issues. It delves into managed care, discussing organizational models, development challenges, ownership implications, actuarial concerns, and physician behavior management. Key focuses include medical service markets, medical inflation factors, and healthcare reform strategies. By applying micro and macroeconomic theories, it explores health care institutions, delivery systems, and their interaction with societal, legal, and political frameworks. Concepts like efficiency, production, and demand are related to health insurance, federal programs, and health policies. Students are equipped to further study these theories’ application to healthcare in future courses.
