ECO 6250 Economics of Healthcare 3 Hours
This course provides an overview of microeconomic theory as it applies to the healthcare industry. Topics include the unique nature of healthcare as a commodity, medical inflation, market failure, the role of the public sector, the market for pharmaceuticals, forms of objective economic analysis, and managerial decision-making. Special emphasis is given to the implications of behavioral economics on individual decision-making. The course presents an economic analysis of the incentives facing the various stakeholders in the market for healthcare (patients, providers, and payers).
