The SNG program is focused on the artistic craft and business aspects of professional songwriting. Students in the songwriting program complete either the B.S. or B.A. curriculum with a major in Songwriting and a minor in a career related discipline. The objective of the Songwriting program is to help the student develop his or her artistic craft while gaining a practical understanding of the business aspects of a songwriting career.

Music Business and Songwriting Requirements: 30 Hours
Music Requirements: 13 Hours
Music Electives: 6 Hours

- MUH 2020 World Music Experience 3 Hours 2

- MUE 4250 Psychology of Music 3 Hours
- MUN Music Ensembles 1 Hours
All MUN ensemble courses are one (1) credit hour. Students may choose up to three (3) credit hours of ensembles to count as music electives.
MA_ (Classical) or MB_ (Commercial) Private Music Lessons (1):
Students may choose a one (1) credit hour private music lesson as available through the School of Music. Students may choose up to three (3) credit hours of private music lessons to count as music electives.
MUT Music Theory:
Students may choose any MUT course for which prerequisites are met.
Note: Theory Placement Test must be taken before registering for Theory I and Aural Skills I. All advanced levels of Music Theory and Aural Skills are sequential.
General Electives: 14 Hours (minimum)
Total Required for the Program: 128 Hours
1 Theory placement test may determine placement into higher-level theory (e.g. MUT 1310 /MUT 1320 , Harmony I/II) where substitution will occur.
2 Although courses are options listed for the B.S. or B.A. General Education Fine Arts requirement, they do not fulfill the General Education and SNG music elective requirement simultaneously.
