The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Early Childhood Integrated preK-3 Job Embedded program is designed for individuals seeking initial licensure to teach young children from pre-kindergarten through third grade. This unique, job-embedded program prepares candidates to create inclusive, developmentally appropriate, and engaging learning environments that address the diverse needs of all students, including English learners, children with special needs, and those from historically underrepresented backgrounds.
Through this Job Embedded pathway, candidates secure a position as the teacher of record while completing their coursework, allowing them to gain hands-on experience in their own classrooms. As part of this arrangement, candidates are placed on a Practitioner Teacher License rather than undergoing a traditional student teaching experience. This approach enables candidates to apply the knowledge and skills gained in the program in real time, while also receiving guidance and support from faculty and mentors as they navigate the responsibilities of their teaching role.
Throughout the program, candidates explore foundational theories in child development, culturally responsive teaching, and inclusive education. With a focus on fostering social-emotional, cognitive, physical, and language development, coursework covers best practices in early literacy, mathematics, and creative arts, integrating evidence-based strategies to support holistic development. Candidates are also trained to engage families and communities in the learning process, recognizing their role in supporting children’s educational journeys.
Graduates of the MAT Early Childhood Integrated preK-3 Job Embedded program are well-prepared to meet state licensure requirements and have developed the practical experience, instructional skills, and inclusive teaching practices needed to support young learners in diverse educational settings.
