The English as a Second Language Job Embedded program provides initial teacher licensure through our Master of Arts in Teaching degree. Candidates are required to hold a bachelor’s degree and be hired by a local school district to complete a minimum of one year (10 months) of full-time teaching. This program allows a candidate to work as teacher of record, while completing coursework to meet the performance standards of the English as a Second Language (Pre-K through 12) license. Teacher candidates complete a variety of coursework focused on the learning of students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Through the tailored coursework, teacher candidates build their repertoire of strategies and content specific to teaching English Language Learners. The English as a Second Language program is designed to prepare teacher candidates to transform the world through an academically challenging program to teach linguistically diverse students.
Any candidate pursuing this pathway must have at least six (6) semester hours of college-level world language instruction or the equivalent with a grade of C or higher in each course.
