Physical Therapy, DPT/BS in Exercise Science 3 + 3 Program

DPT Admission Requirements

The student must: 

  • Declare intent to pursue the B.S./DPT 3+3 program prior to starting the Exercise Science B.S. degree program. Belmont students who want to enter the 3+3 after starting the Exercise Science Program will be considered on a case-by-case basis to determine their eligibility for the 3+ 3 program.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with Physical Therapy in the form of a minimum of 50 hours of observational, volunteer, and/or work experience in multiple settings by the application deadline of September I of the junior year of the Exercise Science program. 
    • A minimum of 20 hours needs to be completed by the start of the Spring semester of the sophomore year in the Exercise Science program.
  • Complete 110 credits to include:
    • Exercise Science Major Course Requirements
    • Bell Core Requirements
    • DPT pre-requisite requirements
    • Well Core requirements
  • Attain an overall cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.7 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher at the time of application to the DPT program.
  • Attain a DPT prerequisite GPA of 3.7 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher at the time of application to the DPT program. Receive a grade of C or higher in all DPT program prerequisites including:
    • CEM 1510/15 General Chemistry I 4 Credits
    • CEM 1520/25 General Chemistry II 4 Credits
    • PHY 1110/15 Precalc-based Physics I 4 Credits
    • PHY 1120/25 Precalc-based Physics II 4 Credits
    • BIO 1110 Principles of Biology I 4 Credits
    • BIO 1120 Principles of Biology II 4 Credits
    • BIO 2230 Human Anatomy & Physiology I 4 Credits
    • BIO 2240 Human Anatomy & Physiology II 4 Credits
    • MTH 1150/51 Statistics 3 Credits
    • SOC 1010 Introduction to Sociology 3 Credits
    • PHI 1520 Ethics 3 Credits
  • Have no more than two prerequisite courses remaining to be taken as of the Fall semester of the junior year.
  • Attend annual Fall semester Informational Sessions with the Chairs of Exercise Science and Physical Therapy.
  • Complete WELL Core hours by the end of the junior year.
  • Complete the PTCAS application and all requirements (including official transcripts from Belmont University and all other schools attended) for application to the program by September 1 of the junior year of the Exercise Science program. Requirements for the PTCAS application include completion of an application essay.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation from:
    • Exercise Science faculty advisor
    • A licensed Physical Therapist
  • Take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) prior to application and achieve competitive scores in the areas of Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical. Competitive scores are found on the PT admissions website: http://www.belmont.edu/pt/admissions.html
  • Satisfactorily complete an interview for the DPT program in the Fall of the junior year.

The School of Physical Therapy determines final acceptance into the program.
