The Secondary Job Embedded program provides initial teacher licensure through our Master of Arts in Teaching degree. Candidates are required to hold a bachelor’s degree and be hired by a local school district to complete a minimum of one year (10 months) of full-time teaching. This program allows a candidate to work as teacher of record, while completing coursework to meet the performance standards of the Secondary license. Teacher candidates complete a variety of coursework focused on the learning of students in grades sixth through twelfth. Through the tailored coursework, teacher candidates build their repertoire of strategies and content specific to secondary grades. They design and adapt instruction to address the diversity of all students within the broader context of family, cultural background, race, socioeconomic class, language, and exceptional learning needs. Teacher candidates learn how to create a learning environment which is inclusive and in which individual differences are valued and respected.
