Belmont University grants two graduate business degrees, the Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) and the Master of Accountancy (M.ACC.). Both degrees are flexible and rigorous programs that arise from the school’s mission. The M.B.A. program provides each student with both a broad generalist view of essential business functions while allowing the student, if desired, to focus on a business function in depth. It is designed to prepare working professionals for mid- to upper-level managent positions. The M.ACC. program is designed to prepare graduates for a career as a professional accountant, whether in the public accounting, industry, government or nonprofit environment. In addition, the degree fulfills education requirements mandated under the Tennessee law that requires 150 hours of postsecondary coursework for candidates to qualify for CPA licensure.
One unique characteristic of this dual degree program is the instruction delivery. The M.B.A. portion of the program will be delivered in a predominantly synchronous online format while the M.ACC. portion of the program will be delivered in person on Belmont’s campus.
Students interested in obtaining both a M.B.A. and a M.ACC. degree from the Jack C. Massey Graduate School of Business must meet the requirements of both degree programs. Some specific courses receive credit in both programs, provided the student is enrolled in the two degree programs simultaneously. Given simultaneous enrollment, the total number of hours for both degrees taken at Belmont University will be 57 hours, as compared to the 66 required hours if taken separately.
Due to accreditation requirements, students who already have a Jack C. Massey Graduate School of Business M.B.A. degree are not allowed to apply any of their previous hours toward the M.ACC. program. The M.ACC. program will be an additional 30 hours beyond the M.B.A. course requirements.
Students who have not already completed an M.B.A. or M.ACC. degree from another school may transfer up to six semester hours into the Massey Graduate School at the time of admission, with the approval of the Associate Dean.
