MUE 5360 Advanced Instrumental Methods


3 Hours

The purpose of this course is to present students with philosophies and techniques of teaching and administration of instrumental music at the high school level.  Students will be challenged to identify and select appropriate repertoire and implement efficient rehearsal techniques and classroom management strategies.  Special emphasis will be placed upon developing one’s own distinct philosophy of music education, recognizing current issues in teaching instrumental music, knowledge of techniques and materials involved in the teaching of instrumental music, and shaping a view as a practitioner of instrumental music education.  Though focused primarily on secondary education, students will be challenged to articulate and demonstrate the process of teaching instrumentalists in grades 9 through 12.
