EDL 6720 Quantitative Methods I


3 Hours

Students will demonstrate the ability to appropriately interpret, select, and perform statistical techniques commonly used in educational research. Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to, one-sample and two-sample normal distributions, chi-square distribution, one-way analysis of variance, and an introduction to non-parametric statistics. The course will familiarize students with selecting the optimal test for statistical significance for the data in hand, and interpreting results using the right language. Students will become more critical of statistical presentations in academic journals and the mass media. Students will also become proficient in using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). Additionally, students will demonstrate the ability to think critically, develop strategies for problem-solving, and make administrative decisions informed by the results of quantitative data analysis.
