LAW 6412 Elder Law

This course examines the legal issues particularly relevant to the elderly. Topics covered will include disability, health care, and related decision making tools such as conservatorships, expedited limited healthcare fiduciaries and health care powers of attorney. The Elder Law Practicum is designed to convey the essential principles, skills and values that a lawyer must master in order to provide competent counsel in conservatorship cases. Students will consider the potential effects of the substantive law, procedural rules, and ethical guidelines, as well as the accepted customs and practices of lawyers.
