The Musical Theatre Major is designed for students who exhibit exceptional performance potential in musical theatre. This degree program provides concentrated study in music and singing, augmented by studies in acting and dance for students interested in pursuing performance careers in musical theatre.

BELL Core Requirements: 38 Hours (minimum)
Common Music Core: 30-33 Hours
I All classical majors take MUT 2340 and commercial majors and Music Therapy majors take MUT 2350 .
II Commercial Music majors, Music Therapy majors, and Musical Theatre majors do not have this requirement.
III All students seeking the Bachelor of Music degree must participate in at least one ensemble each semester enrolled as a full-time student and earn a minimum of eight (8) hours credit except Music Education majors and Music Therapy majors who earn a minimum of seven (7) hours credit and Musical Theatre (BFA) majors who earn a minimum of ten (10) hours credit. This number of credits only may count toward degree requirements. See specific Ensemble Requirements for each principal area.
Special Music Core: 4 Hours
Theatre Requirements: 18 Hours
(One of the 3-hour courses below is “counted” in BELL core as the required non-music elective; thus the total number of hours in this category is 18 instead of 21)
Dance Requirements: 10 Hours
Total of 11 hours in dance required (one hour is counted in Bell Core). Musical Theatre majors should take dance courses in three different styles selected from the courses listed below: Ballet I (1), Ballet II (2), Ballet III (2), Jazz I (1), Jazz II (2), Jazz III (2), Modern I (1) Modern II (2), Modern III (2), Tap I (1), Tap II (2), Tap III (2), Theatre Dance Styles (1)
Additional Required Coursework:
General Electives: 5 Hours (minimum)
Total Required for the Program: 135 Hours
1 No more than 20 hours in voice may be counted toward degree requirements.
2 Secondary Piano study must be continued until the piano proficiency is passed.
