Performance Emphasis: 35-37 Hours


The Commercial Music Major provides a broad musical base for students who wish to pursue careers in the commercial music industry. The Performance Emphasis prepares students to be performers in a variety of commercial music styles.

Students must be confirmed in the Major in Commercial Music - Performance Emphasis at the end of the fourth semester applied jury.

Course Requirements


Take one of the following courses:


Select one of the four following principal areas:


Voice Major: 28 Hours


Keyboard and Instrumental Majors: 26 Hours


(excluding Electric Bass and Saxophone)

(Percussion principals take MBI 2010 Improvisation I  and MBI 2030 Ethnic Percussion )

Saxophone Majors: 28 Hours


Electric Bass Majors: 28 Hours


General Electives: 13 Hours (minimum)


(with 38-hour BELL Core)

Students in this major and emphasis have 13 hours of free electives unless they are saxophone or electric bass principals, who have 11 hours of free electives.
