The Composition Major builds on a strong foundation of music theory and gives extensive training in the creation of music in a wide variety of styles. This major is designed for students who wish to pursue graduate study in composition with the ultimate aim of university teaching and/or professional composition.

BELL Core Requirements: 38 Hours (minimum)
Technical Requirements:
Technical Requirements are courses identified by the program as required courses and will count in the BELL Core Requirements. Major Core Requirements: 18 Hours
Class Piano: 4 Hours
Note: This requirement waived and four (4) hours added to general electives for piano/keyboard principals only. Ensembles: 6 Hours

All music majors must enroll in at least one for-credit ensemble during each semester of study, even if minimum degree requirements for ensembles have been met. Composition Major: 45 Hours
Other Required Music Courses: 2 Hours
Composition Performance Studies: 24 Hours
Applied Principal: 16 Hours
