The Healthcare MBA (HCMBA) program provides each student with both a healthcare perspective and a general business perspective of essential business functions.
Each student takes the required Healthcare & business core courses which provide a solid foundation in business theory and application. The HCMBA will be a full-time MBA designed specifically for early careerists. Through active learning and scholarly exploration, the HCMBA is designed to prepare early career professionals for career advancement in entry and mid-level administrative and managerial positions in both the private and public sectors.
The HCMBA curriculum is a balanced blend of MBA courses (e.g., management of interpersonal relationships, and crafting & implementing strategy) and healthcare management-specific courses (e.g., healthcare operations & quality management, health insurance & managed care, managing healthcare, communities, and populations). The entire program focuses on the application of healthcare business best practices, including courses with hands-on learning projects with area healthcare companies.
The HCMBA is a non-thesis degree consisting of a maximum of 42 hours, of which 36 hours are required core courses and 6 hours of an MBA elective courses that are chosen by the student.
The internship is required for students with little or no experience and requires students to participate in on-campus seminars and professional activities. (If a student does have sufficient experience, the internship can be waived, allowing these students to have three healthcare electives.)
MBA and Healthcare elective courses may be related to a specific area of business (e.g., finance, entrepreneurship, and analytics) or healthcare (study abroad and other healthcare electives).
