A major in Cinema & Television Studies will add another undergraduate degree option to the Motion Pictures Department and afford students the opportunity to specialize in critical, historical, and theoretical analysis of various medias. This degree path leads to career opportunities such as film criticism, film festival and museum curatorship, and education. The major/minor in Cinema & Television Studies also provides the groundwork for graduate studies necessary to teach at the university level. A minor in Cinema & Television studies fosters analytic and communication skills which will benefit students in other majors in Curb College, Liberal Arts, STEM, and in their future career paths. Writing and research skills, analysis of visual narrative, and an understanding of current and classical film theory will be emphasized. The major in Cinema & Television Studies will produce graduates who are proficient in research, analytical writing, and data analysis, a key component of major film programs. Major and minors in Cinema & Television Studies will become well-versed in national and international film history and display knowledge of key movements, genres, and styles. Students will become familiar with the artistic, political, industrial, and cultural effects of film and television production. Students will exhibit their comprehension of basic film theory and demonstrate an ability to analyze cinema and television in both contemporary and historical contexts. This program seeks to help students develop a personal vision which leads to the establishment of intellectual and creative values.

BELL Core Requirements: 53 Hours (minimum)
