The Public Advocacy major at Belmont University offers understanding and skills needed to impact public perception and action. The major focuses on social and historical contexts for social change and on development of student skills in communication for large audiences. A central feature of our Public Advocacy program is a deep commitment to improving the public good with a particular focus on the disenfranchised.
In the six core courses student deepen their capacity for developing persuasive messages which resonate with relevant audiences, and deploying those messages through personal and electronic channels. Electives for the major offer a range of choices in Religion, History, Political Science, and Communication. The culmination of the major is an applied practicum with an advocacy organization as a means consolidating student learning and skills.
Public Advocacy students seek careers in a wide variety of nonprofit and political organizations focused on public influence.
