Psychological Science Minor

Psychological Science employs the scientific method to study behavior, brain, and cognitive processes in humans and animals. It is an integrative discipline that encompasses diverse topics and subdisciplines including social, health, clinical, social, cognitive, and developmental psychology just to name a few. The curriculum is empircally oriented and is based on the American Psychological Association undergraduate learning goals and objectives.The community of learning involves student-faculty research collaborations, practicum experiences, and working in laboratories in a hands-on learning environment. The solid grounding in research methodology along with an emphasis on quantitative and analytical skills prepares students for entry into graduate and professional education as well as diverse workforce careers.

Course Requirements


Psychology Electives: 6 Hours


6 hours to be chosen from the courses listed below or any of the above courses not used to fulfill a requirement. Three hours must be from a developmental course: PSY 2800, PSY 3040, PSY 3100, PSY 3470, or PSY 3550.

Total: 18 Hours


* (Only three (3) hours of Special Studies or Practicum may be counted toward requirements in the major or minor)

Note: Social Work and Sociology majors only may take SWK 2050  or SOC 2250  instead of PSY 2400 . However, those 4 credit hours will need to be made up with another course in PSY as 18 hours of Psychology course work is required for the minor.
