Physical Therapy, DPT/BS in Exercise Science 3 + 3 Program

DPT Admission Requirements

A guaranteed admission to the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program may be offered to Belmont undergraduate Exercise Science majors who meet the eligibility criteria listed below. These are the criteria that must be met to be considered for early matriculation through the 3+3 program. The student must: 

  1. Declare intent to pursue the B.S./DPT 3+3 program prior to starting the Exercise Science B.S. degree program. Belmont students who want to enter the 3+3 after starting the Exercise Science Program will be considered on a case-by-case basis to determine their eligibility for the 3+ 3 program.
     
  2. Demonstrate familiarity with Physical Therapy in the form of a minimum of 50 hours of observational, volunteer, and/or work experience in multiple settings by the application deadline of September I of the junior year of the Exercise Science program. 

o A minimum of 20 hours needs to be completed by the start of the Spring semester of the sophomore year in the Exercise Science program.

  1. Complete 110 credits to include:

o Exercise Science Major Course Requirements

o Bell Core Requirements

o DPT pre-requisite requirements

o Well Core requirements

  1. Attain an overall cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.7 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher at the time of application to the DPT program.
     
  2. Attain a DPT prerequisite GPA of 3.7 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher at the time of application to the DPT program. Receive a grade of C or higher in all DPT program prerequisites including:

o CEM 1510/15 General Chemistry I 4 Credits

o CEM 1520/25 General Chemistry II 4 Credits

o PHY 1110/15 Precalc-based Physics I 4 Credits

o PHY 1120/25 Precalc-based Physics II 4 Credits

o BIO 1110 Principles of Biology I 4 Credits

o BIO 1120 Principles of Biology II 4 Credits

o BIO 2230 Human Anatomy & Physiology I 4 Credits

o BIO 2240 Human Anatomy & Physiology II 4 Credits

o MTH 1150/51 Statistics 3 Credits

o SOC 1010 Introduction to Sociology 3 Credits

o PHI 1520 Ethics 3 Credits

 

  1. Have no more than two prerequisite courses remaining to be taken as of the Fall semester of the junior year.
     
  2. Attend annual Fall semester Informational Sessions with the Chairs of Exercise Science and Physical Therapy.
     
  3. Complete WELL Core hours by the end of the junior year.
     
  4. Complete the PTCAS application and all requirements (including official transcripts from Belmont University and all other schools attended) for application to the program by September 1 of the junior year of the Exercise Science program. Requirements for the PTCAS application include completion of an application essay.
     
  5. Submit two letters ofrecommendation from:

o Exercise Science faculty advisor
o A licensed Physical Therapist

  1. Take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) prior to application and achieve competitive scores in the areas of Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical. Competitive scores are found on the PT admissions website: http://www.belmont.edu/pt/admissions.html
     
  2. Satisfactorily complete an interview for the DPT program in the Fall of the junior year.
     
  3. The School of Physical Therapy determines final acceptance into the program.
