Vision:
To provide quality educational experiences which stimulate students to join faculty in continuing exploration and critical study of scientific and mathematical ideas.
Purpose:
The College of Sciences and Mathematics challenges students to see knowledge as dynamic, while promoting scientific and mathematical principles as ways of knowing the world. Both students and faculty engage in scientific and mathematical practices that explore intellectual boundaries based on an established understanding of the world. Faculty employ innovative pedagogies, technology, research, and scholarship to encourage reflection on, and an understanding of, a scientific way of knowing.
Goals:
- All students will increase their mathematical literacy, understanding of contemporary science concepts, and appreciation for the scientific method of thinking.
- All majors in sciences, in mathematics and/or in computer science will learn how to think rigorously about complex issues in their disciplines.
- All majors will be provided a personalized dimension to the undergraduate experience.
- All majors will have the opportunity to conduct research projects and present them publicly.
- All majors will be prepared for careers, graduate school and professional opportunities in mathematics, life, physical, or psychological sciences.
- Students and faculty will have opportunities for professional and scholarly development.
Pre- Pharmacy Programs
Belmont University provides a number of different options for undergraduate students considering a career in the field of Pharmacy. Specific undergraduate majors can be selected leading to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree, in the disciplines of Biology with a pre-pharmacy emphasis, Chemistry with a Pre-Health emphasis, or Pharmaceutical Studies, which allow the students to meet requirements for admission for many pharmacy programs. Students looking at specific Pharm. D. programs should check the admission requirements for those individual schools / programs and plan accordingly with additional course work to ensure that all admission requirements for that graduate school have been met.
Admission into Belmont’s graduate Pharmacy program (Pharm. D.) is competitive. Students interested in Belmont’s program should work closely with their undergraduate advisors, and be aware of the minimum requirements for application to a Pharm. D. Program. Students do have the option to apply to the Belmont graduate program after completing a minimum of 64 credit hours in the specific curriculum requirements outlined in the graduate catalog.
The College of Pharmacy at Belmont University offers an Early Assurance Program to the PharmD for qualified freshman applicants. Please check the College of Pharmacy website for more information (http://www.belmont.edu/pharmacy/admissions/pathway.html). Pre-pharmacy students who do not meet the Early Assurance requirements are still eligible and are encouraged to apply for admission to Belmont’s PharmD program at the appropriate time.
