LAW 6342 Public Health Law

2 or 3 Hours

This course will examine both the authority and limitations of the government in the provision, promotion, and regulation of the health of its citizens.  It will explore the various aspects of public health law, including laws and regulations designed to prevent illness and disease and promote good health and the agencies charged with enforcement and implementation of such efforts (e.g., USDA, FDA, etc.), and will also examine the private enforcement mechanisms to regulate the same concerns such as the litigation against the tobacco companies.  This course will also examine the establishment and operation of government safety net programs for certain underserved populations, such as public health centers and federally qualified health care centers.
