Prerequisites: PSY 1200  or PSY 1100  and PSY 1150

This course offers a broad description and examination of the psychological perspective on the study of family, platonic, and romanitc relationships. The course will discuss historical perspectives and research methods in the study of relationships, as well as a discussion of major theories, their applications, and research investigations of both. These topics will be illuminated through lectures, in-class discussions, readings, exercises, and self-assessments. This course is meant to discuss scientific study of relationships, including both its contributions to knowledge and its shortcomings. It is not, however, designed to be clinical or ‘self-help’ in nature, although you may gain insight into your own and others’ relationships throughout the course.
